LAV Audio is a multi-format audio decoder for DirectShow. It is based on ffmpeg and its main goal is to offer audio quality without compromise. This means that no shortcuts have been used, no corners cut, everything is setup for the best quality possible.

Bitstreaming
LAV Audio supports Bitstreaming of Audio to a AV-Receiver through either HDMI or S/PDIF. Bitstreaming means that the Audio is not decoded in your PC, instead its transmitted untouched to your receiver, which then takes care of the decoding.
S/PDIF supports AC3 and DTS bitstreaming.
HDMI supports AC3, E-AC3, TrueHD, DTS and DTS-HD.
Note that bitstreaming is only properly supported on Windows 7.
DTS-HD and the ArcSoft DTS Decoder
If you're lucky enough to own a copy of ArcSoft's TotalMedia Theater, there is some good news for you. In combination with the DTS decoder from TMT, LAV Audio is capable of full high quality DTS-HD decoding.
DTS-HD is the most common audio format to be found on Blu-rays, and before LAV Audio, it was quite a chore to get full decoding of this format – not anymore.
With LAV Audio, decoding DTS-HD is as simple as decoding any other audio format. You just need to get the 'dtsdecoderdll.dll' from your 'Codecs' directory inside the TMT installation, and drop it inside the directory you installed LAV Audio to. Thats all!
